Tickets and booking
Tickets come in two tiers. Park admission covers the grounds only: 15 CNY adult and 7.5 CNY concession from April 1 to October 31, dropping to 10 CNY and 5 CNY from November 1 to March 31. The combined ticket adds the six enclosed sights — the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Echo Wall, the Circular Mound Altar, the Palace of Abstinence, the North Divine Kitchen and the North Slaughter Pavilion — at 34 CNY and 17 CNY in the peak season, and 28 CNY and 14 CNY off-season.
The concession rate covers minors older than 6 up to and including 18 with valid ID — a child who is exactly 6 does not qualify, an 18-year-old does — plus full-time students at university level or below with valid ID, and holders of a social security payment certificate. Free entry applies to children under 1.2 metres, seniors aged 60 and over with a senior preference card or relevant documents, disabled visitors with a disability certificate, military or armed police personnel (including retired and disabled military) with valid ID, and disabled veterans holding a revolutionary disabled serviceman certificate.
Listed prices are for reference only; the disclosure on site on the day of your visit prevails. For enquiries, call 010-67028866 or 010-67012483. The enclosed sights close on Mondays — except statutory holidays and the July 15 to August 31 window — so confirm they are open before paying for the combined ticket.
Entrance and routes
Four gates serve the park, each with its own bus stop. The East Gate is reached on routes 6, 39, 41, 43, 116 and 128 to the Fahua Temple stop, and on Subway Line 5, whose Temple of Heaven East Gate station (Exit A) is named for the gate itself. The South Gate sits on routes 53, 62, 122 and 141; the West Gate on routes 2, 36, 53, 120 and 141; the North Gate on routes 34, 35, 36, 106 and 110. Subway Line 8 is the second rail option, stopping at Tianqiao station (Exit C).
The address is No. A1 Tiantan Dongli, Dongcheng District, Beijing. All four gates open onto the same grounds, and the six enclosed sights keep their own 8:00 opening and Monday closure no matter where you enter, so the choice of gate matters less than the timing of your arrival.
Photo spots
The park’s listed sights are the six enclosed structures behind the combined ticket: the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Echo Wall, the Circular Mound Altar, the Palace of Abstinence, the North Divine Kitchen and the North Slaughter Pavilion. Photography of them is bounded by their hours — an 8:00 opening, last entry at 17:30 in the peak season and 16:30 off-season, and closing at 18:00 and 17:00 respectively.
The grounds open far earlier, at 06:00 from April to October and 06:30 from November to March, so the parkland around the enclosed sights can be photographed for up to two hours before the ticketed areas unlock. The grounds then stay open until 22:00, with last entry at 21:00 — long after the enclosed sights have shut. Build shots of the six named buildings into the 8:00-to-last-entry window, and remember the Monday closure when planning.
Timing and crowds
Two clocks govern a visit. The grounds run 06:00 to 22:00 from April 1 to October 31 and 06:30 to 22:00 from November 1 to March 31, with last entry at 21:00 in both seasons. The six enclosed sights keep a far narrower window: they open at 8:00, stop entry at 17:30 and close at 18:00 in the peak season, and stop entry at 16:30 and close at 17:00 off-season.
The key date rule: the enclosed sights close every Monday, except on statutory holidays and throughout the July 15 to August 31 summer window, when they open as normal. On an ordinary Monday, only the grounds are visitable.
The suggested duration is three hours or more, which fits inside the 8:00-to-last-entry window with room to spare. An 8:00 start gives the longest access to the enclosed sights; a late-afternoon arrival compresses that circuit, since last entry falls at 17:30 or 16:30 depending on the season.
Walking and effort
This is a walking visit, with a suggested duration of three hours or more. The route spans the grounds between the four gates and the six enclosed sights, all covered by the one combined ticket. There is no pressure from the park’s own hours — the grounds stay open until 22:00 — so the binding constraint is the enclosed sights’ 8:00 opening and their 17:30 or 16:30 last-entry cutoffs. Plan for at least three hours on your feet, and longer to walk the grounds at an unhurried pace.
Getting there
Two subway lines reach the area: Line 5 to Temple of Heaven East Gate station (Exit A) and Line 8 to Tianqiao station (Exit C).
Buses fan out across all four gates. East Gate: routes 6, 39, 41, 43, 116 and 128, alighting at Fahua Temple. South Gate: routes 53, 62, 122 and 141. West Gate: routes 2, 36, 53, 120 and 141. North Gate: routes 34, 35, 36, 106 and 110.
Route 141 links the South and West Gates, route 53 serves both as well, and route 36 connects the West and North Gates — useful if you plan to enter and leave through different gates.
Cost breakdown
Peak season, April 1 to October 31: park admission 15 CNY adult and 7.5 CNY concession; combined ticket 34 CNY adult and 17 CNY concession. The step from admission to combined ticket — 34 against 15 CNY in the peak season, 28 against 10 off-season — is what buys the six enclosed sights.
