Tickets and booking
Entrance tickets are priced flat all year (Jan 1–Dec 31): adults 40 RMB, students/seniors/military 20 RMB. A postcard ticket variant costs 45 RMB (25 RMB concession) and can be swapped for a commemorative postcard at the ticket service centre or self-service machines after your visit — the ordinary e-ticket includes no postcard. The pack’s ticketing notes reference online reservation and order-based redemption, with on-site windows handling exchanges, so booking ahead is the reliable move; the scenic area’s phone is 010-61626022.
Concession and free-entry status is document-checked at the gate, so carry the matching ID. Half price applies to foreign minors aged 6–18, students over 18 studying below bachelor’s level (non-adult education), non-Beijing seniors aged 60+, serving military and veterans with the relevant certificates, social-security recipients, and holders of firefighter certificates. Free entry covers Chinese nationals aged 18 and under (accompanied by a responsible adult), Beijing Tong elderly-and-disabled card holders, retired cadres with their card, and disabled visitors with valid certificates — all of whom exchange a free ticket at the on-site ticket office (children under 1.2 m excepted). Shuttle and cable car tickets are separate purchases, and the cable car company is distinct from the ropeway/toboggan operator, so their tickets are not interchangeable.
Entrance and routes
Two ways in, per the pack. From the Mutianyu Roundabout bus stop, the entrance is within walking distance. If you arrive at the shuttle service area instead, note the shuttle station sits roughly 3 km from the ticket checkpoint — that gap is what the shuttle ticket (10 RMB one way, 15 RMB round trip) covers.
At the checkpoint your wall ticket is verified, with concession or free-entry documents checked in person. Beyond it, the cable car (100 RMB one way, 140 RMB round trip) is run by one company while the ropeway and toboggan belong to another; tickets are not interchangeable between them. If you buy the cable car round trip, the stated instruction is to return the same way.
Photo spots
The pack names no specific viewpoints, towers or platforms, so treat the wall itself as the subject: the ramparts above the ticket checkpoint are the sight you came for. The cable car ascent is the one elevated vantage the pack documents — an aerial ride up to the wall line.
Work the light around the hours rather than named spots. In peak season (Mar 16–Nov 15) the gate opens 07:30 on both weekdays and weekends, so an opening-time start puts you on the wall in early light with the full day in hand. For a keepsake, the postcard ticket’s commemorative postcard — redeemed with your order info after the visit — is the pack’s only photo-adjacent souvenir.
Timing and crowds
Hours shift by season. Nov 16–Mar 15: 08:00–17:30 daily. Mar 16–Nov 15: 07:30–18:00 Mon–Fri and 07:30–18:30 Sat–Sun — the extra half hour on peak-season weekends is the only crowd-related signal the pack gives, and it carries no visitor-volume data, so plan around the clock rather than predicted crowds.
Budget the suggested 3+ hours with closing time in mind: the cable car runs the same hours as the park, so start your descent with a buffer. For day-of confirmation of hours or ticket policy, call 010-61626022; the scenic area’s posted policy on the day governs.
Walking and effort
The pack gives no trail lengths, tower counts or gradient data, so treat effort as open-ended: the suggested duration of 3 hours or more is the only effort benchmark provided. What it does quantify is the approach — the roughly 3 km between the shuttle service-area station and the ticket checkpoint, which the shuttle ticket exists to cover.
For the climb itself, the cable car (100 RMB one way, 140 RMB round trip) carries you up and, on a round-trip ticket, back down the same way. The ropeway and toboggan belong to a separate company whose tickets do not interchange with the cable car’s, and none of these lifts are covered by the wall ticket — price each leg before you commit.
Getting there
By bus from central Beijing: start at the Dongzhimen transfer hall, take the 916 Express to Huairou Beidajie, then change to bus H23, H24, H35 or H36 and ride to the Mutianyu Roundabout stop — the entrance is walkable from there. The pack also lists a direct scenic-area shuttle line to the site, without fare or schedule details.
For navigation, the address is Mutianyu Village, Bohai Town, Huairou District, Beijing. The scenic area’s phone, 010-61626022, is the pack’s listed contact for day-of transport or ticket questions.
Cost breakdown
Wall entrance: adults 40 RMB, concessions (students, seniors, military) 20 RMB; the postcard ticket variant is 45 RMB / 25 RMB. Shuttle bus: 15 RMB round trip, 10 RMB one way. Cable car: 140 RMB round trip, 100 RMB one way. Ropeway and toboggan prices are not listed in the pack.
Two worked examples from those figures: a walk-and-shuttle day (entrance plus round-trip shuttle) runs 55 RMB, while a lift-assisted day (entrance plus round-trip shuttle plus round-trip cable car) runs 195 RMB. Children 1.2 m and under ride the shuttle and cable car free; above 1.2 m they pay full price, with no child, senior or disabled discounts on either. The wall ticket covers the wall only — shuttle, cable car, ropeway, toboggan and other on-site activities are billed separately, and all prices are ultimately subject to the scenic area’s day-of disclosure.
