Tickets and booking
Admission is free, but entry is strictly reservation-only: every campus visit requires a real-name booking made through the official ‘Visit PKU’ mini-program. Bookings open 7 days ahead, with each day’s new quota released at 08:00 sharp. The catch that shapes everything else: each phone number and each ID number can make only one successful reservation per calendar year, so a single visit is all you get — treat the booking like a scarce ticket.
Once booked, the reservation cannot be cancelled that same day, and arriving outside your reserved window counts as forfeiting the visit. Children aged 8 and above need their own reservation; children under 8 may enter only when accompanied by a guardian with a successful booking, and kids without an ID card should carry a household register or other valid ID. Visits can be suspended at short notice for campus schedule adjustments, major events or extreme weather — check official channels or call 010-62755110 / 010-62752114 / 010-62754070.
Entrance and routes
The visitor route is fixed. After a successful booking, go to the East Gate: from Peking University East Gate Station on Metro Line 4, take Exit A and walk north to the dedicated campus-visitor channel. There you pass a person-vs-ID verification (bring the ID document you booked with) and a security check before entering. You must leave campus by 19:00 on the day of your visit. The pack names only the East Gate as the visitor entrance; the West Gate appears solely as a bus-stop reference point.
Photo spots
The data pack names no specific landmarks, so treat the campus itself as the subject and plan around the hard constraints. Your photo time is bounded by the session you booked — 08:00-11:00 or 13:00-16:00 — and by the 19:00 exit, and because each ID gets one visit per calendar year, there is no coming back another day for better conditions. The morning session gives you early light; the afternoon session ends at 16:00. The two named reference points are the gates themselves: the East Gate visitor channel where you enter, and the West Gate by the bus stop — useful as orientation markers when plotting your route.
Timing and crowds
There are two daily entry windows, 08:00-11:00 (morning session) and 13:00-16:00 (afternoon session), running every day of the year. The pack carries no crowd data, so the timing that actually matters is slot availability: reservations open 7 days ahead with each day’s quota released at 08:00, and since only one successful booking per ID is allowed per year, booking the moment your date opens is the reliable move. Build in buffer for the caveats — visits may be paused for internal schedule changes, important campus events or extreme weather.
Walking and effort
This is a self-guided campus walk, not a hike: the pack lists no trails, terrain or distances, and the suggested duration is 1-3 hours. You are on foot throughout, inside a single session capped at roughly three hours (morning 08:00-11:00 or afternoon 13:00-16:00) with a hard 19:00 exit. The binding constraint is the clock, not the terrain — pace yourself to your window and wear shoes you can walk in.
Getting there
Two approaches are documented. By metro: Line 4 to Peking University East Gate Station, Exit A, then walk north to the East Gate visitor channel — this is the entry route tied to your reservation. By bus: routes 424, 584, 608, 644, 686, 688 and Night Route 8 stop at Peking University West Gate, a short walk from campus. For a taxi or map app, the address is No. 5 Yiheyuan Road, Haidian District, Beijing.
Cost breakdown
Admission: free — there is no ticket, only the reservation. The pack lists no other fees and does not cover transit fares, so your only cash outlay is whatever it costs to reach Haidian by metro or bus. The real currency here is the reservation itself: one successful booking per phone number and per ID per calendar year, non-cancellable on the day, forfeited if you arrive outside your window. The scarce resource is not money — it is your single annual slot and the 1-3 hours it buys on campus.
