Tickets and booking

Mount Qingcheng sells separate tickets for its two areas. Front Mountain costs 80 RMB for adults, 40 RMB for students, and 120 RMB for a parent-child ticket (one adult plus one minor). Back Mountain is far cheaper: 20 RMB adult, 10 RMB student, 30 RMB parent-child. The pack lists these prices as valid year-round.

Two conditions matter. Student tickets are only for full-time students up to undergraduate level; you enter by swiping your ID card, and staff verify your student ID at the gate. The parent-child ticket exists only for minors aged 6 (exclusive) to 18 (inclusive) who are not carrying their own ID card.

The pack includes no online-booking channels or reservation details, so treat the gate prices as the baseline and confirm current conditions through the scenic area’s listed enquiry line, 028-87111907.

Entrance and routes

You are choosing between two entrances with two separate tickets: Front Mountain and Back Mountain. The site sits in Dujiangyan, part of Chengdu, roughly 68 km from the city’s urban area. The pack documents three ways in:

  • Coach: direct buses to Mount Qingcheng leave from Chadianzi Bus Station; Xinnanmen Bus Station runs coaches specifically to Back Mountain.
  • Rail: high-speed trains run from Xipu Station to Qingchengshan station, ten-plus departures daily, 10 RMB per person, about 40 minutes. Buses 101 and 102 outside the station go straight to the mountain.
  • From Qingchengshan Town: buses 101 and 102 loop toward Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan — ask the driver whether the terminus is Qingcheng Front Mountain before boarding, since the loops serve multiple destinations.

The pack lists a taxi (about 10 RMB) as the link between Front and Back Mountain, so pick your entrance based on which area you plan to hike.

Photo spots

The pack names no individual viewpoints, pavilions or lookouts, so build your shot list around structure rather than named spots. The mountain divides into two ticketed photo zones: Front Mountain (80 RMB) and Back Mountain (20 RMB). They are separate enough that the documented link between them is a 10 RMB taxi — not something you dash across mid-shoot — so commit to one zone per visit.

Opening hours set your light window: gates open at 08:00 from April through October and 08:30 from November through March, closing at 17:30 and 17:00 respectively. For specific named locations, verify on site or through the scenic area on 028-87111907; the data here does not cover them.

Timing and crowds

Posted hours are 08:00-17:30 daily from 1 April to 31 October, and 08:30-17:00 daily from 1 November to 31 March. The pack flags these as reference only and says to confirm with the scenic area if anything seems off — the listed number is 028-87111907.

The pack carries no visitor-volume data, so there is no evidence-based crowd forecast to give. What you can plan around is arithmetic: the suggested visit runs 3 hours or more, so to get a full window, enter by roughly 14:30 in the summer season or 14:00 in winter. An earlier start buys margin; the closing time is the hard constraint.

Walking and effort

The pack quantifies none of the usual effort metrics — no trail lengths, elevation gain or difficulty grades — so treat any specific ‘how hard is the climb’ claim as unsupported. What it does establish: budget at least 3 hours for a visit, and note that Front Mountain and Back Mountain are separately ticketed areas connected, per the pack, by a 10 RMB taxi rather than a listed trail. They are two hikes, not one loop.

The practical constraint is the clock. With gates closing at 17:30 in summer or 17:00 in winter, a 3-plus-hour hike means starting no later than mid-afternoon. If effort level is decisive for you, confirm route details with the scenic area on 028-87111907 before committing to either area.

Getting there

Off the train at Qingchengshan station, buses 101 and 102 run direct to Mount Qingcheng. From Qingchengshan Town itself, the same 101 and 102 routes loop toward the mountain and Dujiangyan; the pack’s advice is to confirm with the driver that the terminus is Qingcheng Front Mountain before boarding.

Between the two ticketed areas, the documented option is a taxi at roughly 10 RMB from Front Mountain to Back Mountain. Bus fares for the 101/102 services are not listed in the pack, and no cable cars or shuttles appear in the data either — do not assume prices for them; check on site.

Cost breakdown

Documented costs, in RMB:

  • Entry, Front Mountain: 80 adult / 40 student / 120 parent-child (1 adult + 1 minor).
  • Entry, Back Mountain: 20 adult / 10 student / 30 parent-child.
  • Train, Xipu to Qingchengshan: 10 each way (about 40 minutes), so 20 return.
  • Taxi, Front Mountain to Back Mountain: about 10.

Worked examples: a Front Mountain day trip by rail from Chengdu runs 80 + 20 = 100 RMB before local bus fares (the 101/102 fares are not in the pack); the same day on Back Mountain is 20 + 20 = 40 RMB. Students halve the ticket component — 60 RMB total for Front Mountain by rail, 30 RMB for Back Mountain. Coach fares from Chadianzi or Xinnanmen stations are not listed in the pack.
