Tickets and booking
Entry tickets cost 55 RMB for adults and 27 RMB for the half-price ticket, priced the same all year. Half-price eligibility, with valid ID: minors aged 6-18; full-time undergraduate students and below (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan students, but excluding adult-education students); and visitors aged 60-65 on public holidays. Free entry, with valid ID: children aged 6 and under or under 1.3 m tall; seniors aged 60 and over; disabled visitors; retired personnel, veterans and active-duty military; fire-rescue personnel; and tour guides leading groups, among other listed categories.
The data pack lists no online booking channel and no real-name reservation requirement, so do not assume either. The reliable move is to confirm current ticketing arrangements before setting out, using the base’s listed phone lines: 028-83510033 or 028-83516748 (dial +86 28 from abroad).
Entrance and routes
The base sits at 1375 Panda Avenue (Xiongmao Dadao) in Chenghua District, Chengdu. The data pack describes two ways in. By metro: ride Line 3 to Xiongmao Dadao (Panda Avenue) station, then transfer to the scenic area’s direct shuttle bus, which runs straight to the base. By bus: routes 87, 198 and 655 stop at the Panda Base (Xiongmao Jidi) stop, from which the entrance is walkable.
The pack does not name individual gates, so follow on-site signage from whichever drop-off you use. A taxi or ride-hail can simply be set to the Panda Avenue address.
Photo spots
The data pack maps no specific photo spots, viewpoints or enclosures, so no ranked list of vantage points appears here — inventing one would be worse than admitting the gap. The subject, in any case, is the pandas themselves.
Two pack facts shape the photography. First, opening hours cap your shooting window: entry opens at 07:30 from March 1 to October 31 and 08:00 from November 1 to the end of February. Second, the on-site sightseeing shuttle (30 RMB) repositions you across the grounds without burning your 3-plus-hour visit on walking between areas. Treat the visit itself as the scout.
Timing and crowds
Listed opening hours: March 1 to October 31, 07:30-17:00 daily (the pack splits this into 07:30-12:00 and 12:00-17:00 sessions); November 1 to the end of February, 08:00-17:30 daily (08:00-12:00 and 12:00-17:30). The base opens every day of the week.
The pack carries no crowd statistics, so plan around the clock rather than around predicted queues. The controllable variables: entry opens at 07:30 in the warm months and 08:00 in the cool ones, and the suggested visit length is 3 hours or more. Arriving at opening preserves the full window before the listed closing time, whatever the crowds do.
Walking and effort
The pack lists no trail distances, terrain or elevation for the base, so there is no honest way to grade the walk. What it does give: a suggested visit of 3 hours or more, which on foot means a sustained stretch of walking, and an on-site sightseeing shuttle for 30 RMB if you would rather cover the ground with less of it.
If walking distance is a constraint — small children, limited mobility — price the shuttle into the day rather than assuming the grounds are compact.
Getting there
Within Chengdu, the pack’s routing is: Metro Line 3 to Xiongmao Dadao (Panda Avenue) station, then the scenic area’s direct shuttle bus to the base; or buses 87, 198 or 655 to the Xiongmao Jidi (Panda Base) stop and a walk to the entrance.
The street address for taxis and ride-hailing is 1375 Panda Avenue, Chenghua District. For route or schedule questions, the base’s listed phone lines are 028-83510033 and 028-83516748.
