Introduction

Zhangjiajie is a city in Central China, and the itineraries travellers publish about it are dominated by protected landscape: two national forest parks, the Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, and a run of named mountain stops. As of the September 2026 count, 17,887 travellers had marked the city as a place they have been.

The most-travelled routes run three to four days. The stops recorded across them are Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, Golden Whip Stream, Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, the Ten-Mile Gallery, Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, the Tianmen Mountain glass walkway and Fenghuang Ancient Town. Read as a whole, the list splits into a forest-park cluster, a Tianmen Mountain day and an ancient-town extension — the shape that most three-and-four-day plans follow.

Suggested itineraries

The route data settles trip length quickly. The single most-chosen itinerary runs four days and holds a 36% share of choices; a second four-day route adds another 24%, so four-day plans together account for roughly 60% of the share. A three-day route sits just behind at 34%. Travellers consistently favour four days, with three days as the compressed alternative.

Three days is the floor for the forest-park core. The stops that recur across the surveyed routes — Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, Golden Whip Stream, Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain and the Ten-Mile Gallery — supply three full days of scenery without doubling back.

The four-day plans make room for Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, and the Tianmen Mountain glass walkway is recorded across the routes as a stop in its own right. Giving Tianmen Mountain its own day is the clearest way to stretch the three-day core into the four-day trip that most travellers actually choose.

Fenghuang Ancient Town also appears among the stops recorded across the routes. Travellers set on pairing the mountain parks with the ancient town should take the four-day option rather than trimming the three-day plan.

Things to Do

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The twin anchors of the route data: both names appear across the most-travelled itineraries, and the rest of the recorded stop list — Golden Whip Stream, Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, the Ten-Mile Gallery — travels with them. Plan the largest share of a three-to-four-day trip here.

Golden Whip Stream. The stream appears across the surveyed routes, and travellers consistently slot it into the forest-park days.

Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie and Tianzi Mountain. Three named stops that recur across the itineraries as a trio — the mountain core of any Zhangjiajie plan.

Ten-Mile Gallery. A distinct stop in the route data, named for a ten-mile stretch of scenery; it appears alongside the other forest-park stops across the surveyed routes.

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park and the glass walkway. The second national forest park in the data and the natural anchor for the extra day in a four-day plan. The Tianmen Mountain glass walkway is listed as a stop in its own right, separate from the park itself — the one stop in the crawl that names a built structure rather than open landscape.

Fenghuang Ancient Town. The single town on the stop list, and the obvious extension for travellers with a fourth day. It appears across the surveyed routes; anyone who wants it alongside the mountain parks should budget the longer plan.

These ten stops are the complete set recorded across the crawl, so an itinerary built from this list matches exactly what the most-travelled routes cover.
