Tickets and booking
Yuanjiajie has no ticket of its own. The data pack lists admission as free, with access included in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area through ticket — so the only thing to arrange is that main Wulingyuan gate ticket, whose price the pack does not list (confirm current rates before travel). There is no separate Yuanjiajie ticket to buy on top of it. For ticket or access questions, the listed phone number is 0744-5718833. The practical default: sort out the Wulingyuan ticket first, since everything on the Yuanjiajie plateau hangs off it.
Entrance and routes
The pack describes two ways up from the valley floor. The on-foot option starts at Zicaotan on Golden Whip Stream: turn left into the Shadaogou gully and climb Luancuan Slope to the Back Garden (Houhuayuan) on the plateau. The low-effort option is the Bailong Elevator — billed in the pack as the ‘world’s first elevator’ — which lifts you to Xiaping. Coming down or moving on, the route notes say rough paths along the plateau rim drop to Qianli Xianghui on Golden Whip Stream, and Yuanjiajie also connects onward to Tianzi Mountain and Yangjiazhai.
Photo spots
The pack names no formal overlooks, so plan camera stops around the waypoints it does list. The plateau rim is the main walking line — the route notes run the rim paths along the edge of the Yuanjiajie plateau, which makes that corridor the natural photo stretch. The Back Garden is the first named point at the top of the Luancuan Slope climb. The Bailong Elevator ascent to Xiaping is a photo opportunity in its own right given its ‘world’s first elevator’ billing. If you descend toward Golden Whip Stream, Qianli Xianghui is the named stop on that line.
Timing and crowds
Opening hours are 07:00-17:30, listed as all-day, Monday through Sunday, January 1 to December 31 — so no seasonal or weekly closure to plan around. The pack’s suggested duration is 1-3 hours, and it carries no crowd data. The practical default: start at or near the 07:00 opening so even a full 3-hour visit finishes well inside the 17:30 close, leaving slack for the climb or the elevator ride.
Walking and effort
The two ascents are not equivalent. The walking route from Zicaotan is a sustained climb — up the Shadaogou gully via Luancuan Slope to the Back Garden — and the pack gives no distance or elevation figures for it, so budget time conservatively. The Bailong Elevator to Xiaping skips the climb entirely. On the descent side, note the wording: the paths from the plateau rim down to Qianli Xianghui are described as rough, untended trails, so they demand steadier footing than the main approaches. The 1-3 hour suggested duration covers the plateau itself; the approach adds time on top.
Getting there
Yuanjiajie sits in the northern part of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, inside the Wulingyuan Scenic Area in Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie, Hunan. The pack lists no shuttle or internal bus service for the plateau — movement is on foot via the two approaches (the Luancuan Slope trail from Golden Whip Stream, or the Bailong Elevator to Xiaping). Once up top, the plateau links onward on foot to Tianzi Mountain and Yangjiazhai, or down rough rim paths to Qianli Xianghui on Golden Whip Stream.
Cost breakdown
Yuanjiajie itself costs nothing: admission is free and included in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area through ticket. Beyond that, the pack is silent on money — it lists no price for the Wulingyuan through ticket, no fare for the Bailong Elevator, and no other fees. Budget for the Wulingyuan gate ticket plus the elevator ride if you take it, and confirm both prices before travel. For fee or ticket queries, call the listed number, 0744-5718833.
