Why this route
Seven stops, one day, one idea: old Chongqing and the engineered city in a single sweep. The route pairs its two heritage anchors — Ciqikou Ancient Town at the start and Hongya Cave Folk Scenic Area at the close — with the stops that show how the city runs: Sanceng Road, whose name translates as ‘three-layer road’; Liziba Monorail Station; the Yangtze River Cableway; and the Nanshan (South Mountain) Scenic Area, with the Chongqing World Financial Center marking the modern end of the spectrum.
The single-day split is dense by design. Five two-hour blocks and two one-hour blocks total roughly twelve hours of stop time, sequenced to open on heritage at Ciqikou Ancient Town, pass through the road-and-rail stops (Sanceng Road, Liziba Monorail Station), take in the Nanshan Scenic Area, then run the two short stops — the Yangtze River Cableway and the Chongqing World Financial Center — before the two-hour finish at Hongya Cave Folk Scenic Area. The two one-hour stops give the day its flex; the five two-hour blocks are the spine.
Day by day
Day 1 is a single seven-stop sequence totalling roughly twelve hours of stop time — five two-hour blocks and two one-hour blocks — before any transit between stops is counted.
Begin with two hours at Ciqikou Ancient Town, the route’s heritage opener. Continue with two hours at Sanceng Road, whose name translates as ‘three-layer road’, then two hours at Liziba Monorail Station, the day’s monorail stop. Next comes the Nanshan (South Mountain) Scenic Area, also a two-hour block. The pace quickens from there: one hour for a crossing on the Yangtze River Cableway, then one hour at the Chongqing World Financial Center. Close with the final two-hour block at Hongya Cave Folk Scenic Area.
Trade-offs
The schedule flexes at the two one-hour stops. If the twelve-hour total feels heavy, cut the Chongqing World Financial Center first: at one hour it is the shortest block, and it sits between the Yangtze River Cableway and Hongya Cave Folk Scenic Area, so dropping it leaves the rest of the sequence intact. The same logic applies to trimming the cableway down to a short ride.
Anyone who wants the day under eight hours — or is travelling with young children — should simplify further by cutting Sanceng Road and the Nanshan Scenic Area. Those two cuts remove four hours and leave a five-stop, eight-hour core in the original order: Ciqikou Ancient Town, Liziba Monorail Station, the Yangtze River Cableway, the Chongqing World Financial Center and Hongya Cave Folk Scenic Area.
