Yangshuo 8 Day Itinerary

Why this route

These eight days form one loop through the cave-and-river country between Guilin and Yangshuo. The route opens with two days of Guilin city sights — Dongxi Lane and Guilin Two Rivers and Four Lakes, then Reed Flute Cave and Elephant Hill Scenic Area — before moving to the Yangshuo core on Days 3 and 4, where the Yulong River, Ten-Mile Gallery, West Street, Xingping Ancient Town and the Li River fill two consecutive seven-hour days. Days 5 to 7 then fan out to the outlying counties of Pingle, Lipu and Gongcheng, and Day 8 closes the loop near Guilin with Guilin Eternal Love Scenic Area and Daxu Ancient Town.

The theme holding it together is water and stone: nearly every day is anchored on a river or lake — Guilin Two Rivers and Four Lakes, the Yulong River, the Li River, the Gui River, Lijiang Bay Scenic Area — or on a cave, from Reed Flute Cave to the Silver rock scenic spot, with ancient towns, villages and temples threaded between. The day split does deliberate work: city orientation first, the headline river scenery next, the quieter rural counties in the middle, and a finale built around the route’s longest single stop, the four-hour Guilin Eternal Love Scenic Area, followed by three unhurried hours at Daxu Ancient Town.

Day by day

Day 1: The trip opens gently in Guilin with five hours of sightseeing: two hours through Dongxi Lane, then three hours around Guilin Two Rivers and Four Lakes.

Day 2: A four-hour Guilin day: two hours inside Reed Flute Cave, followed by two hours at Elephant Hill Scenic Area.

Day 3: The focus shifts to Yangshuo for a seven-hour day: two hours on the Yulong River, two hours along Ten-Mile Gallery, and three hours on West Street to close.

Day 4: The densest day of the route, with four stops across seven hours: three hours at Xingping Ancient Town, one hour on the Li River, one hour at Yangshuo Cultural Heritage Park, and a second two-hour pass through Ten-Mile Gallery — the only stop that appears twice in the plan.

Day 5: Five hours on a water-and-grove circuit: two hours on the Gui River, one hour among the thousand-year-old banyans at Rongjin, and a two-hour soak at Pingle Xianjia Hot Spring.

Day 6: Six hours in Lipu, split evenly: two hours at the Silver rock scenic spot, two hours at Maling Drum Village, and two hours at Lijiang Bay Scenic Area.

Day 7: A four-hour day in Gongcheng: two hours at Hongyan Village, one hour at Gongcheng Confucian Temple, and a one-hour slot at Gongcheng Martial Temple (Temporarily Closed).

Day 8: The finale pairs the route’s longest single stop — four hours at Guilin Eternal Love Scenic Area — with three hours at Daxu Ancient Town.

Trade-offs

Day 4 is where the schedule flexes most: it is the only day with four stops, and its second visit to Ten-Mile Gallery is the only repeated stop in the plan. Cutting that two-hour revisit leaves a comfortable day built around Xingping Ancient Town, the Li River and a short stop at Yangshuo Cultural Heritage Park. Day 7 holds the other easy trim — Gongcheng Martial Temple is listed as temporarily closed, so the one-hour slot can be dropped and the county day can end after the Confucian temple.

Travellers with fewer than eight days should simplify from the edges inward. The county circuits on Days 5, 6 and 7 are the most self-contained blocks and the easiest to lift out whole, while Days 3 and 4 carry the core river scenery — the Yulong River, the Li River, Xingping Ancient Town and West Street. If only one county day survives, keep Day 5 for the two-hour Pingle Xianjia Hot Spring, the single stop on the route built around rest rather than sightseeing; within Day 6, the Silver rock scenic spot is the anchor, with Maling Drum Village and Lijiang Bay Scenic Area the natural cuts.
