Hangzhou 3 Day Itinerary

Why this route

This route holds together around one subject: Hangzhou’s lake-and-hill setting, covered in three deliberate slices. Day 1 stays with the lake itself, chaining the causeway strolls at Duanqiao Canxue, Bai Causeway and Spring Dawn on Su Causeway to the scenic stops at Quyuan Fenghe and Viewing Fish at Flower Harbour, with Gushan Hill, a meal at the Louwailou restaurant on Gushan Road, and a two-hour finish at Mao’s Home Port woven in between. Day 2 splits its attention between water and city — Liulang Wenying, Leifeng Pagoda and Three Pools Mirroring The Moon on the lake, then Wushan square and Hefang Street in town, closed out by the West Lake Music Fountain. Day 3 trades the lake for the hills: Feilai Feng and LingYin Temple first, then Longjing Village, Nine creeks in misty forest, and the Qiantang River Bridge as the final stop.

The day split also manages effort. Day 1 carries six timed hours wrapped around untimed causeway walking; Day 2 is the fullest at seven and a half timed hours, but it breaks the sightseeing up with the square-and-street stretch; Day 3 is the lightest at five and a half timed hours, opening with a half-hour stop at Feilai Feng before the longer temple and village blocks. Because each day keeps to one zone, the itinerary reads as three coherent outings — a lake day, a lake-and-city day, and a temple-and-hills day — rather than a scatter of separate stops.

Day by day

Day 1 opens at Duanqiao Canxue and follows the Bai Causeway; neither stop carries a set duration, so the walk sets the pace. Gushan Hill takes the first timed block at two hours, with the Louwailou restaurant on Gushan Road as the meal stop between the hill and Quyuan Fenghe. The route continues to Quyuan Fenghe for one hour, runs the Spring Dawn on Su Causeway stretch at whatever pace suits, and pauses for one hour at Viewing Fish at Flower Harbour. A two-hour stay at Mao’s Home Port ends the day — six timed hours in total, plus the untimed causeway walking in between.

Day 2 begins with one hour at Liulang Wenying, then two hours at Leifeng Pagoda and an hour and a half at Three Pools Mirroring The Moon. From the lake the route moves into the city: two hours at Wushan square and one hour along Hefang Street. The West Lake Music Fountain, which carries no set duration, closes the day. At seven and a half timed hours, this is the fullest day of the three.

Day 3 is the shortest, at five and a half timed hours. A half hour at Feilai Feng leads into an hour and a half at LingYin Temple, followed by two hours at Longjing Village and an hour and a half at Nine creeks in misty forest. The Qiantang River Bridge, also untimed, is the route’s last stop.

Trade-offs

Day 1 is the place to trim if the schedule feels tight. Its timed stops add up to six hours, and the last of them, Mao’s Home Port, is a full two-hour block at the very end of the day — cutting it finishes Day 1 at Viewing Fish at Flower Harbour and frees two hours without touching the causeway walks. The untimed stretches flex in the other direction: Duanqiao Canxue, Bai Causeway and Spring Dawn on Su Causeway can each be a quick pass or a long stroll depending on how the day is going.

Day 2 carries the heaviest load at seven and a half timed hours, and it is where a slower itinerary should be simplified. Wushan square takes two hours and Hefang Street one, so shortening the square trims the day without disturbing the lake sequence, and the West Lake Music Fountain, being untimed, can be dropped altogether if energy runs low. Travellers who want a gentler trip should make their cuts here rather than on Day 3, which is already the lightest day at five and a half timed hours and ends with the untimed Qiantang River Bridge.
