Why this route

This six-day route holds together around one recurring contrast: still water set against high ground, and old towns set against the scenery around them. It opens at a wetland and closes at one — Lashi Lake Wetland Park on Day 1, Tengchong Beihai Wetland on Day 6 — with Lugu Lake and Erhai Lake between them, and height supplied by the Gemu Goddess Mountain Cableway and The CangShan Mountain. The cultural thread runs through Xizhou Town, The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, Shaxi Ancient Town and Heshun Ancient Town, while the Tengchong Volcanic and Geothermal National Geological Park adds the volcanic and geothermal note on Day 5. Rather than giving each theme a day of its own, the plan pairs them within days: Lugu Lake sits alongside the cableway and Xiaocaohai on Day 2, The CangShan Mountain shares Day 3 with Erhai Lake, and Heshun Ancient Town shares Day 5 with the volcanic park.

The day split is what keeps that mix workable. Five stops are fixed at three hours — Lashi Lake Wetland Park, The CangShan Mountain, Erhai Lake, Shaxi Ancient Town and Heshun Ancient Town — and no day carries more than two of them. Day 3 holds the only pair, back to back, which makes it the one day with nothing to trim; Day 4 spreads three stops with only Shaxi Ancient Town fixed; Day 2 is assembled from short pieces, none longer than three hours; and Day 6 closes with a single one-to-three-hour stop at Tengchong Beihai Wetland, the lightest of the six. The heaviest loading sits in the middle days, and the route tapers to a gentle finish.

Day by day

Day 1 sets the template of a fixed anchor plus flexible time: three hours at Lashi Lake Wetland Park, then one to three hours at the Anzhong horse ranch on the same lake — four to six hours in total.

Day 2 is the short-stop day: Lugu Lake for one to three hours, the Gemu Goddess Mountain Cableway for one hour, and Xiaocaohai for one hour — three stops, none longer than three hours.

Day 3 is the fixed centrepiece and the least flexible day: three hours at The CangShan Mountain followed by three hours at Erhai Lake — six committed hours with no ranged stops to compress.

Day 4 is the busiest by stop count and the widest by span: Xizhou Town for one to three hours, The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda for one to three hours, and Shaxi Ancient Town for a fixed three hours — five to nine hours depending on pace.

Day 5 pairs town with geology: three fixed hours at Heshun Ancient Town, then one to three hours at the Tengchong Volcanic and Geothermal National Geological Park.

Day 6 is a single stop — one to three hours at Tengchong Beihai Wetland — the lightest day of the route and a quiet close.

Trade-offs

The hard points of the schedule are the five fixed three-hour stops — Lashi Lake Wetland Park, The CangShan Mountain, Erhai Lake, Shaxi Ancient Town and Heshun Ancient Town — and Day 3, built entirely from two of them, has no give at all. Everywhere else the plan bends: the Anzhong horse ranch, Lugu Lake, Xizhou Town, The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, the Tengchong Volcanic and Geothermal National Geological Park and Tengchong Beihai Wetland all run on one-to-three-hour ranges, so any day that runs long can be pulled back by holding its ranged stops near the one-hour floor.

Two cuts simplify the plan without giving up a three-hour anchor. On Day 4, the widest day at five to nine hours, drop either Xizhou Town or The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda and keep Shaxi Ancient Town’s fixed three hours; on Day 2, anyone who wants a lighter schedule can skip the Gemu Goddess Mountain Cableway or Xiaocaohai, since each is a single fixed hour and Lugu Lake can carry the day alone. Day 6 needs no adjustment — one wetland stop of one to three hours is already the gentlest day on the route.
