Why this route
This three-day route holds together because every stop plays the same chord — classic Chengdu — in a different register. Day 1 stays with the city’s civic side: Tianfu Square and Chengdu People’s Park, each budgeted at 1-3 hours, with the People’s Park branch of Heming Teahouse for tea and the Zhimin Road branch of Malubianbian for malatang. Day 2 pairs heritage with commerce, opening at the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm. before running through Taikoo Li Chengdu, Daci Temple, Chunxi Road and Chengdu IFS, and closing with hotpot at Dalongyi’s Taikoo Li branch. Day 3 finishes on the city’s character quarters, from Eastern Suburb Memory to Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley.
The split does the pacing. Every timed stop on the route runs 1-3 hours — Taikoo Li Chengdu and Daci Temple sit at the lighter 1-2 — so no single sight can swallow a day; the three-day frame instead stacks short visits into themed blocks. Day 1 carries the lightest load, two timed stops plus two food stops; Day 2 is the densest; Day 3 closes with two flexible 1-3 hour stops. Travellers consistently favour this shape for a short Chengdu stay because it delivers park-and-tea culture, a museum-and-temple core, a retail run and the alleys of Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley without rushing any of them.
Day by day
Day 1. Open at Tianfu Square with 1-3 hours, then continue to Chengdu People’s Park for another 1-3 hours. Settle in at the People’s Park branch of Heming Teahouse — an open-ended stop that can run as long as the afternoon allows — and end the day with malatang at the Zhimin Road branch of Malubianbian.
Day 2. Begin at the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm., budgeting 1-3 hours. The day then turns to the city’s retail sequence: Taikoo Li Chengdu for 1-2 hours, Daci Temple for 1-2 hours, Chunxi Road for 1-3 hours and Chengdu IFS for 1-3 hours. Cap it with hotpot at the Taikoo Li branch of Dalongyi.
Day 3. Give Eastern Suburb Memory 1-3 hours, then finish the route with 1-3 hours at Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley — the two-stop day leaves room to linger at either.
Trade-offs
Day 2 is the pinch point: five timed stops — the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm. at 1-3 hours, Taikoo Li Chengdu and Daci Temple at 1-2 hours each, then Chunxi Road and Chengdu IFS at 1-3 hours each — before a hotpot dinner. The cleanest fix is to fold Chengdu IFS into the Chunxi Road visit or cut it entirely, and to run the museum at the short end of its window; that keeps the evening open for Dalongyi.
Travellers after a slower, food-first trip should simplify Day 3 by dropping Eastern Suburb Memory and giving the whole day to Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley, whose 1-3 hour range absorbs a leisurely pace. The schedule also flexes at the table: Heming Teahouse, Malubianbian and Dalongyi come with no set durations, so tea and meals can expand or contract to balance the timed stops.
