Why this route

This five-day Chengdu route works as a sandwich: it opens and closes inside the city and slots the out-of-town stops into the middle three days. The theme tying it together is heritage in two registers — the city’s own cultural layer, running from the Chengdu Museum and Daci Temple to the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm., the Temple of Marquis and Jinli, and the monumental sights beyond the city, namely Huanglongxi Ancient Town, the Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei’s temple circuit and Golden Summit, and the Dujiangyan pairing of the Dujiangyan Panda Base and the Dujiangyan Scenic Area. Framing the trip with two city days keeps the first and last days entirely within Chengdu itself.

The day split also paces the effort. Day 1 spreads eight hours across four city stops, none longer than three hours. Days 2 and 3 step up to single-destination days — an ancient town plus the Leshan Giant Buddha, then a full day on Mount Emei — before Day 4 combines the two-hour Dujiangyan Panda Base with the Dujiangyan Scenic Area, whose duration the plan leaves open. Day 5 returns to town for a seven-hour heritage finale that ends with the longest single stop of the itinerary, three hours at Jinli.

Day by day

Day 1. The route opens with two hours at the Chengdu Museum, followed by two hours at the IFS International Financial Center. Taikoo Li Chengdu takes the largest block of the day at three hours, and one hour at Daci Temple closes it out — eight scheduled hours in total, all within the city.

Day 2. A two-stop excursion day: three hours at Huanglongxi Ancient Town, then three hours at the Leshan Giant Buddha.

Day 3. The day belongs to Mount Emei, listed as the overarching stop with its own duration left open. Beneath it sit one hour each at Baoguo Temple, Fuhu Temple, the Golden Summit and Wannian Temple, plus two hours in the Natural Ecological Monkey Zone — six hours of timed visits in all.

Day 4. Two hours at the Dujiangyan Panda Base come first, followed by the Dujiangyan Scenic Area, which the plan leaves open-ended so it fills whatever remains of the day.

Day 5. The finale stays in the city: two hours at the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm., two hours at the Temple of Marquis, and a three-hour closing stretch at Jinli.

Trade-offs

Day 3 is the densest day on the itinerary, with six timed stops on Mount Emei. Travellers who want a lighter mountain day should cut the Natural Ecological Monkey Zone — it frees two hours — or drop one of the one-hour temple visits, Baoguo Temple or Fuhu Temple, and concentrate on the Golden Summit and Wannian Temple. Anyone travelling with young children or preferring a slower pace should simplify here first.

Day 2 is the other pressure point, pairing three hours at Huanglongxi Ancient Town with three hours at the Leshan Giant Buddha. Travellers who would rather linger at the Buddha should cut Huanglongxi Ancient Town and give Leshan the whole day. The schedule’s built-in flex sits on Day 4: the Dujiangyan Scenic Area carries no fixed duration, so that day can stretch or shrink around the two-hour Dujiangyan Panda Base visit — the natural place to absorb delays or trim the plan without losing a named sight.
