Why this route

This four-day Chengdu route holds together as a single arc through the city’s layered identity: old-street heritage first, deep history second, the pandas third, and a slow park-side finish. Day 1 sets the tone with the lanes of Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley, the Temple of Marquis and three hours in Jinli; Day 2 reaches furthest back in time with the JINSHA SITE MUSEUM, the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm. and Qingyang Palace, closing at Jiuyan Bridge; Day 3 pivots to the city’s most famous residents at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding before Wenshu Monastery and Chunxi Road; Day 4 ends with two unhurried hours in Chengdu People’s Park.

The day split does deliberate work. The heritage weight sits early, at seven hours on Day 1 and eight on Day 2, while Day 3 balances the route’s longest single stop — four hours with the pandas — against two lighter two-hour blocks. Day 4 carries only one two-hour stop, leaving a soft landing for departure instead of a fourth full sightseeing load. Travellers consistently favour this shape for a first Chengdu stay: history up front, iconic wildlife in the middle, and an easy close.

Day by day

Day 1 runs seven hours across three stops. It opens with two hours in Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley, continues with two hours at the Temple of Marquis, and finishes with the day’s longest block, three hours in Jinli.

Day 2 is the densest day of the route at eight hours and four stops: three hours at the JINSHA SITE MUSEUM, two hours at the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm., one hour at Qingyang Palace — the shortest stop on the entire itinerary — and a closing two hours at Jiuyan Bridge.

Day 3 also totals eight hours but spreads across three stops of very different weight. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding takes four hours, the single longest stop of the route, followed by two hours at Wenshu Monastery and two hours on Chunxi Road.

Day 4 is deliberately light: a single two-hour visit to Chengdu People’s Park, the only stop of the day.

Trade-offs

Day 2 is the pinch point — four stops and eight hours, the fullest day on the route. The easiest flex is Qingyang Palace: at one hour it is the shortest stop in the plan, and cutting it brings Day 2 down to seven hours, matching Day 1’s pace. Jiuyan Bridge is the second lever; its two-hour block can be trimmed if the museums run long.

Day 4 holds only a two-hour visit to Chengdu People’s Park, so travellers short on time can shift the park onto Day 1 — the lightest of the first three days at seven hours — and compress the whole route into three days. Those with a later departure, or anyone who prefers an unhurried final morning, should keep Day 4 as designed; travellers with young children or limited stamina should instead simplify Day 2 by dropping the Chengdu Dufu Thatched Cottage Msm. and keeping the JINSHA SITE MUSEUM as the day’s single museum.
