Why this route

This Chengdu route holds together as a single westward line that runs from snow country through temple-and-lake country to lake country, and ends in an old town. Day 1 opens on the high viewpoints, the Zheduo Mountain Snow-Viewing Platform and Yuzixi; Day 2 passes through the Tibetan-town stops at the Letong Ancient Town and Thousand-Household Tibetan Village scenic area and the Daocheng White Pagoda; Days 3 and 4 work through the Zhaguanbeng, Chonggu Temple, Pearl Lake, Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake sequence; and Days 5 and 6 settle onto the shoreline of Lugu Lake before Day 7 closes at the Old Town of Lijiang. The stop names alone trace the arc: snow platform, Tibetan villages, temple and lakes, lakeshore, old town.

The day split is built around Day 4, the only day in which every stop is fixed at a single hour — Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake, three hours back to back with nothing untimed in between. The days on either side carry far less listed time: Day 3’s only timed stop is Pearl Lake at 1-2 hours, and Day 5 consists of a single one-hour stop, the Walking Marriage Bridge. After that concentrated block the schedule opens out again — Day 6 spreads six to eight hours of listed time across four lakeside stops, only one of which, Daluoshui Village at 3 hours, is fixed above an hour, and Day 7 ends at the Old Town of Lijiang with no listed duration at all. The structure keeps the one fully fixed day bracketed by days with far less committed time and saves the loosest, most flexible stretch for the end.

Day by day

Day 1 opens at the Zheduo Mountain Snow-Viewing Platform, which carries no listed duration, then moves on to Yuzixi for a 1-hour stop.

Day 2 strings together three stops: the Heavenly Road Eighteen Bends viewing platform, untimed; the Letong Ancient Town and Thousand-Household Tibetan Village scenic area at 1-2 hours; and the Daocheng White Pagoda, also untimed.

Day 3 takes in Zhaguanbeng and Chonggu Temple, neither with a listed duration, before Pearl Lake, the day’s only timed stop at 1-2 hours.

Day 4 is the only day where every stop is fixed at a single hour: Luorong Pasture, Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake, 1 hour each, for three hours of listed stop time in total.

Day 5 drops to a single stop, the Walking Marriage Bridge, at 1 hour — tied with Day 1 for the least listed stop time on the route.

Day 6 is the longest day by listed time. Xiaoluoshui takes 1 hour, Lige Island runs 1-3 hours, the Lugu Lake National Scenic Area - Lovers Beach takes 1 hour, and Daluoshui Village takes 3 hours, for a total of six to eight hours. Daluoshui Village’s 3 hours ties the top of Lige Island’s 1-3 hour range for the longest stop of the day.

Day 7 finishes the route at the Old Town of Lijiang, which carries no listed duration.

Trade-offs

The schedule flexes on Days 5 and 6. Day 5 holds nothing but the 1-hour Walking Marriage Bridge, so it is the natural day to absorb delays or to rest after the mountain stretch; on Day 6, Lige Island’s 1-3 hour range is the adjustable block — hold it to the 1-hour floor to keep the day at six hours of stops, or take the full 3 hours and let the day run to eight.

Travellers who want a simpler plan should trim the lake days rather than the Days 3-4 core. On Day 6, cutting the Lugu Lake National Scenic Area - Lovers Beach removes a 1-hour stop and leaves Xiaoluoshui, Lige Island and Daluoshui Village to carry the day; anyone stretched by Day 4’s three consecutive one-hour stops can cut that day short after Luorong Pasture and skip the Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake hours.
