Why this route

This five-day route links three bases — Kunming, Dali, and Lijiang — and the thread running through it is the pairing of old-town heritage with open water and mountain scenery. Day 1 sets the pattern in Kunming, matching two hours at Dian Lake with two hours at Kunming Old Street and an untimed visit to the Yunnan Provincial Museum. Day 2 answers in Dali, where three hours in Dali Old City sit alongside two hours at The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda. The Lijiang days close the arc the same way: three hours in the Old Town of Lijiang on Day 4, then three hours at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and three more at Lashi Lake Wetland Park on Day 5.

The day split is what makes the sequence workable. Four of the five days carry between one and three stops each, while Day 3 is the Erhai Lake day: the lake itself is listed untimed, and the seven timed stops that follow — Sansheng Island on Erhai Lake, the Panxi S-Bend photo base, Xizhou Town, Haishe Ecological Park, Ideal State Tourism Resort Town, Little Putuo Island, and Shuanglang Ancient Town — add up to thirteen hours. Concentrating that cluster of stops in a single day keeps every other day anchored on a small set of stops, so each base gets a focused visit rather than a scattered one.

Day by day

Day 1 — Kunming. Two hours at Dian Lake open the route, followed by two hours at Kunming Old Street. The Yunnan Provincial Museum rounds out the day with no duration fixed in the plan, so it can run long or short with the hours left.

Day 2 — Dali. Three hours in Dali Old City come first; The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda takes another two, for five timed hours in total.

Day 3 — Erhai Lake. The eight-stop day. Erhai Lake itself opens it untimed, and the seven timed stops that follow total thirteen hours: Sansheng Island on Erhai Lake for two hours, the Panxi S-Bend photo base for one, Xizhou Town for two, Haishe Ecological Park for one, Ideal State Tourism Resort Town for two, Little Putuo Island for two, and Shuanglang Ancient Town for three.

Day 4 — Lijiang. A single stop is listed: three hours in the Old Town of Lijiang, with the rest of the day left open.

Day 5 — Lijiang. The route closes with three hours at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and three hours at Lashi Lake Wetland Park, six timed hours in all.

Trade-offs

Day 3 is where to trim. It carries eight stops and thirteen timed hours, and two of them are straightforward cuts: dropping the Panxi S-Bend photo base (one hour) and Little Putuo Island (two hours) frees three hours without touching Xizhou Town, Haishe Ecological Park, Ideal State Tourism Resort Town, or the three-hour finish at Shuanglang Ancient Town. Travellers who would rather linger in the two ancient towns than add a photo base and an island stop should make that cut first; anyone wanting an even lighter day can also drop Sansheng Island on Erhai Lake and Ideal State Tourism Resort Town, which frees another four hours.

The schedule flexes on Day 4 and at the Day 1 museum. Day 4 lists only the Old Town of Lijiang at three hours, so the rest of that day is unscheduled — room to absorb anything the Erhai day leaves unfinished, or simply to recover after thirteen timed hours. The Yunnan Provincial Museum is likewise untimed: a first day that runs long at Dian Lake and Kunming Old Street can shorten the museum stop, while travellers who want the collections can let it expand.
