Why this route
This nine-day route links three anchors — Dali, Lijiang and Lugu Lake — with one repeating cast of old towns, lake stops and mountain stops. The Dali block sets the pattern. Day 1 pairs Dali Old City and Renmin Road with The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda and Three Pagodas Reflection Park; Day 2 loops out through Xizhou Town, Butterfly Spring, Shuanglang Ancient Town, Nanzhao Folklore Island, Wase Town and Little Putuo Island before closing back at Dali Old City; Day 3 is a single-stop day at The CangShan Mountain. The Lijiang block repeats the formula: the old-town quartet of Old Town of Lijiang, Lion Hill, Mu Palace and Lijiang Sifang Street on Day 4, Lashi Lake Wetland Park with Shuhe Old Town on Day 5, and a four-stop mountain day on Day 6 that opens with three hours at Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park. Days 7 and 8 carry the same mix to Lugu Lake — viewing platforms and islands first, shoreline villages and bays after — and Day 9 closes the trip with a single final stop at Ancient City Zhongyi Market.
The day split is what turns the stop list into a route. Keeping each anchor on consecutive days lets short stops travel with their neighbours: Three Pagodas Reflection Park (1 hour) sits beside the 2-hour pagoda complex it is named for, and Blue Moon Valley (1 hour) rounds off Day 6’s mountain cluster instead of standing alone. The single-stop days do the opposite work — Day 3 gives The CangShan Mountain a day with nothing else scheduled, and Day 9 ends the trip on a 1-2 hour market visit rather than a crowded run of stops. At Lugu Lake, the two-day split separates Day 7’s viewing platforms and island stops from Day 8’s shoreline sequence, so neither squeezes the other.
Day by day
Day 1 stays in Dali: an hour in Dali Old City, two hours at The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, an hour at Three Pagodas Reflection Park, and 1-2 hours along Renmin Road.
Day 2 loops out of Dali Old City and back. The timed stops run Xizhou Town (1-2 hours), Butterfly Spring (1 hour), Shuanglang Ancient Town (2 hours), Nanzhao Folklore Island (1 hour) and Wase Town (2 hours); Little Putuo Island follows Wase Town, untimed, before the day closes back at Dali Old City.
Day 3 is a single-stop day at The CangShan Mountain, with nothing else on the schedule.
Day 4 moves the route to Lijiang: an hour at Old Town of Lijiang, an hour at Lion Hill, an hour at Mu Palace, and 1-2 hours at Lijiang Sifang Street.
Day 5 is a two-stop day — four hours at Lashi Lake Wetland Park, then two hours at Shuhe Old Town.
Day 6 is the mountain day. Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park takes three hours, followed by Maoniuping Scenic Area (1-2 hours), Spruce Meadow (1-2 hours) and Blue Moon Valley (1 hour).
Day 7 heads for Lugu Lake. The Lining Eighteen Bends Viewing Platform and the Lugu Lake Viewing Platform come first, both untimed, then Daluoshui Pier, also untimed; the timed stops are two hours at Lugu Lake Scenic Area - Lugu Lake Rock Island and two hours at Lige Island.
Day 8 picks up at Lige Island and works along the shoreline. Nisai Village comes first, untimed, then Xiaoluoshui (1 hour); Libai Lovers Beach and the Last Princess’s Mansion follow, both untimed. The day closes with Lugu Lake Scenic Area - Caohai (2-3 hours) and Goddess Bay (2 hours).
Day 9 is a single-stop wind-down: 1-2 hours at Ancient City Zhongyi Market.
Trade-offs
The schedule flexes at the 1-2 hour stops. On Day 6, Maoniuping Scenic Area and Spruce Meadow each carry a 1-2 hour range, so taking the lower end at both protects the three hours at Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park plus the hour at Blue Moon Valley. Day 2 works the same way: Butterfly Spring and Nanzhao Folklore Island are each 1-hour stops in an eight-stop day, and dropping one of them — or the untimed Little Putuo Island — leaves the 2-hour stops at Shuanglang Ancient Town and Wase Town untouched.
Travellers short on time should simplify from the Lugu Lake end. Days 7 and 8 form a self-contained two-day block, so cutting Day 8’s shoreline sequence — Xiaoluoshui, Libai Lovers Beach, the Last Princess’s Mansion, Lugu Lake Scenic Area - Caohai and Goddess Bay — turns Lugu Lake into a one-day visit built on Day 7’s viewing platforms and two-hour island stops. Travellers who prefer a slower trip can do the opposite: keep both Lugu Lake days and trim Day 2’s quick stops instead, since the two single-stop days at The CangShan Mountain and Ancient City Zhongyi Market already give the route its breathing room.
