Why this route

The route’s theme is a steady alternation between heritage towns and natural landmarks: two old towns, one snow mountain and one wetland lake, each with a day of its own. Day 1 is the first town day — two hours in the Old Town of Lijiang, an hour each at Lion Hill and Mu Palace, then a closing three hours at Lijiang Sifang Street, seven hours in all. Day 2 is the mountain day, built around three hours at Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park and filled out by one to two hours at Spruce Meadow and an hour at Blue Moon Valley. Day 3 is the second town day at Shuhe Old Town, and Day 4 is the wetland day at Lashi Lake Wetland Park.

The split also does the pacing work. The two anchor days come first and carry the heaviest timed load — seven hours on Day 1, five to six on Day 2 — after which the route steps down: Day 3 spreads three and a half to five timed hours across six stops, only one of which, Shuhe Old Town itself, is scheduled at two hours, and Day 4 carries a single stop. Because town and nature alternate — town, mountain, town, lake — no two consecutive days ask for the same kind of sightseeing, and the second Sifang Street, the one in Shuhe, lets Day 3 echo Day 1 at a gentler scale.

Day by day

Day 1 — Old Town of Lijiang. The day opens with two hours in the Old Town of Lijiang, followed by an hour on Lion Hill and an hour at Mu Palace. The longest block comes last: three hours at Lijiang Sifang Street, which brings the day to seven hours of sightseeing.

Day 2 — Yulong Snow Mountain. Three hours at Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park form the core of the day. Spruce Meadow follows for one to two hours, and Blue Moon Valley closes the day with one hour — five to six hours in total.

Day 3 — Shuhe Old Town. Two hours in Shuhe Old Town come first, then half an hour to an hour at Shuhe Sifang Street. The sequence continues through Shuhe Ancient Town - Qinglong Bridge and on to Jiuding Dragon Pool, before half an hour to an hour each at Shuhe Ancient Town - Sansheng Palace and the Tea Horse Road Museum. The timed stops add up to three and a half to five hours.

Day 4 — Lashi Lake Wetland Park. The final day holds a single stop, Lashi Lake Wetland Park, and nothing else, leaving the rest of the day open.

Trade-offs

The schedule flexes where the durations have ranges. Spruce Meadow’s one-to-two-hour window is the only slack on Day 2, so the mountain day can tighten or stretch by a full hour at that stop alone. Day 3 compresses easily, since three of its six stops are scheduled at half an hour to an hour, and a late start there costs little. Day 1, the heaviest at seven hours, ends with its longest single block — three hours at Lijiang Sifang Street — which makes it the natural day to finish early.

To shorten the route, cut from the back. Day 4 holds nothing but Lashi Lake Wetland Park, so dropping it yields a clean three-day trip, and travellers with only two days can keep the anchors — the Old Town of Lijiang and Yulong Snow Mountain and Glacier Park — and let Shuhe go as well. Within Day 3, the Tea Horse Road Museum and Shuhe Ancient Town - Sansheng Palace, each scheduled at half an hour to an hour, are the stops to sacrifice first, leaving Shuhe Old Town, Shuhe Sifang Street, Shuhe Ancient Town - Qinglong Bridge and Jiuding Dragon Pool as the town’s core.
