Why this route
This five-day route through Yunnan runs one clean line — Kunming on Day 1, Dali on Days 2 and 3, Lijiang on Days 4 and 5 — and its theme is the province’s blend of open water and old-town heritage. The two elements alternate rather than share every day: Dian Lake sits beside Kunming Old Street and the Yunnan Provincial Museum on Day 1, Day 2 belongs entirely to Dali Old City and The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, Day 3 is all Erhai Lake and the towns and parks around it, Day 4 is the Old Town of Lijiang alone, and Day 5 closes on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Lashi Lake Wetland Park. Taken across the whole run, the lakes and the old towns balance each other, with the mountain as the finish.
The day split is built around Day 3. Days 1 and 2 stay light — four listed hours plus the museum, then five — easing the trip in through Kunming and Dali’s heritage core before the Erhai day loads eight stops and thirteen listed hours into a single day. Day 4 then drops to one three-hour stop in the Old Town of Lijiang, a breather between the lake and the finale, and Day 5 ends the route with two even three-hour blocks at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Lashi Lake Wetland Park.
Day by day
Day 1 opens in Kunming with two hours at Dian Lake and two more through Kunming Old Street; the Yunnan Provincial Museum closes the day with no fixed duration attached.
Day 2 moves to Dali: three hours inside Dali Old City, then two hours at The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda — five listed hours in all, a light heritage day.
Day 3 is the long one, given over to Erhai Lake and the sights around it. The lake itself carries no set duration; the timed stops run two hours at Sansheng Island on Erhai Lake, one hour at the S-Bend photo base at Panxi, two hours in Xizhou Town, one hour at Haishe Ecological Park, two hours at Ideal State Tourism Resort Town, two hours at Little Putuo Island, and a three-hour close in Shuanglang Ancient Town — thirteen listed hours across eight stops.
Day 4 is the lightest of the five: three hours in the Old Town of Lijiang, the day’s only stop, with the rest of the schedule left open.
Day 5 finishes with two three-hour blocks — Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, then Lashi Lake Wetland Park — six listed hours that end the route on mountain and water.
Trade-offs
Day 3 is where the plan strains, and it is the first place to cut: thirteen listed hours across eight stops is a heavy day by any measure. Dropping the two one-hour stops — the S-Bend photo base at Panxi and Haishe Ecological Park — trims the day to eleven hours while keeping every anchor in place; travellers who want real breathing room can go further and skip Little Putuo Island or Ideal State Tourism Resort Town, holding Xizhou Town and Shuanglang Ancient Town as the fixed points. Anyone who travels slowly should simplify here before touching any other day.
Day 4 is where the schedule flexes, since it holds only a single three-hour stop in the Old Town of Lijiang. The cleanest rebalance is to move Shuanglang Ancient Town, Day 3’s last and longest stop, into Day 4 and spread the load across the two days; travellers short on time can bend the plan the other way and fold Day 4’s three hours into the Lijiang stay, though that stacks the old town onto a Day 5 that already carries six hours at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Lashi Lake Wetland Park — a fit only for those content with a packed final day.
