Why this route

This Yunnan route is a compact three-day Dali circuit with one clear logic: Dali Old City serves as the base, and each day works outward from it. Day 1 stays anchored on the old city itself, pairing 2-3 hours in Dali Old City with 2 hours at The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, 1 hour at Three Pagodas Reflection Park and a closing 1-2 hours on Renmin Road — six to eight hours in total, enough to fill a first day without rushing. The theme of the opening day is the town’s own fabric: its streets, its landmark pagodas and the street life of Renmin Road.

Day 2 is the itinerary’s one big loop. It leaves Dali Old City and chains together Xizhou Town, Butterfly Spring, Shuanglang Ancient Town, Nanzhao Folklore Island, Wase Town and Little Putuo Island before closing the circle back at Dali Old City, so the base never changes between nights. Day 3 then strips the plan down to a single stop, The CangShan Mountain, giving the mountain the whole day and building in recovery time after the busiest stretch. One anchored day, one loop day, one mountain day — that split is what turns a list of sights into a coherent route.

Day by day

Day 1 opens with 2-3 hours inside Dali Old City, then moves to The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda for 2 hours. A 1-hour stop at Three Pagodas Reflection Park follows, and the day closes with 1-2 hours on Renmin Road.

Day 2 starts from Dali Old City and runs the loop: 1-2 hours in Xizhou Town, then 1 hour at Butterfly Spring. Shuanglang Ancient Town gets 2 hours, Nanzhao Folklore Island 1 hour, and Wase Town another 2 hours, with Little Putuo Island — untimed in the plan — as the last stop before the return to Dali Old City. The timed stops alone add up to seven or eight hours, so this is the day to set out early.

Day 3 belongs entirely to The CangShan Mountain, the sole stop on the schedule. With no other stops competing for the day, its length is left fully open and the pace is set by the mountain itself.

Trade-offs

Day 2 is where the schedule is tightest, and it is also where it flexes. Travellers who find six stops plus two bookends too many can cut Butterfly Spring, the shortest timed stop at 1 hour, and skip Little Putuo Island, which carries no fixed duration, without breaking the loop’s shape. On Day 1, Three Pagodas Reflection Park is the easiest sacrifice: its 1 hour doubles the pagoda view already covered at The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda, so anyone pressed for time loses little by dropping it.

Travellers who prefer a slower pace — families with small children, or anyone who dislikes moving through stop after stop — should simplify Day 2 by ending the loop at Shuanglang Ancient Town and heading straight back to Dali Old City, leaving Wase Town and Little Putuo Island for a future trip. Day 3, by contrast, needs no trimming: with The CangShan Mountain as the only stop, it can absorb a late start or any spillover from the previous day.
