Yunnan 5 Day Itinerary

Why this route

This five-day route strings together seven distinct stops, and the thread running through them is a deliberate shift from settled places to raw landscape. It opens with two 3-hour stops in town and village settings — the Old Town of Lijiang and Xuesong Village — then moves through a run of headline landscapes: the 6-hour Tiger Leaping Gorge, the Napa Hai Yila Grassland, and the 4-hour Mingyong Glacier, framed along the way by the Feilai Temple, before the pace drops back to village life at Laomudeng Village.

The day split does the pacing work. Day 1 balances six hours across two equal 3-hour stops; Day 2 clears the whole schedule for the route’s longest single block, the 6-hour Tiger Leaping Gorge; Days 3 and 4 each pair a longer stop with a shorter one (3 hours at Napa Hai Yila Grassland before 1.5 hours at Feilai Temple, then 4 hours at Mingyong Glacier before 2 hours at Laomudeng Village); and Day 5 slows to a single 3-hour stop back at Laomudeng Village. Because the village appears on both Day 4 and Day 5, the route ends on a two-day arc that winds down rather than stopping abruptly.

Day by day

Day 1. The route opens with 3 hours in the Old Town of Lijiang, then moves on to Xuesong Village for another 3 hours — six hours split evenly across the day’s two stops.

Day 2. A single stop fills the day: Tiger Leaping Gorge, at 6 hours the longest single block on the itinerary.

Day 3. Napa Hai Yila Grassland takes 3 hours, followed by a shorter 1.5-hour stop at Feilai Temple.

Day 4. The day pairs the route’s second-longest stop, 4 hours at Mingyong Glacier, with a first 2-hour visit to Laomudeng Village.

Day 5. The route closes with one stop, 3 hours at Laomudeng Village, completing the village’s two-day arc.

Trade-offs

The built-in flex point is Laomudeng Village’s double booking. The village is scheduled for 2 hours on Day 4 and 3 hours on Day 5, so anyone who finds Day 4 long after the 4-hour Mingyong Glacier can cut the Day 4 visit entirely and still get a full 3 hours there on the final day — the cleanest way to lighten the week without losing the stop altogether.

Day 1 is where to trim for a gentler start: it stacks two 3-hour stops, and travellers who want an easier opening day can drop Xuesong Village and keep the full 3 hours for the Old Town of Lijiang. Day 2 and Day 5, which each carry a single stop, are the days that absorb overruns best if any earlier stop runs long.
